Many of our resources are now available online, especially journals and an increasing number of books. You can find these in a number of ways - see the 'Finding relevant publications page' for more detail.
Yes - you will need your University username and password to access our online resources from off-campus. This is the same one you use to access the Blackboard site.
Just follow the links from our website or catalogue for the easiest access. If you try to access a resource via another route, e.g. using a search engine, you will need to look for an institutional or shibboleth login option. See the box below for more detail.
Note that if you have an NHS Athens login you may have access to a wider range of online resources than you can access via your University login.
If you are on campus you will be able to access most e-journals and e-books, and some databases, without entering a username and password because your IP address identifies you as being at the University of Reading.
For any that require a login, see the Off-campus tab.
When you are off-campus you will need to login to identify yourself as a member of the University of Reading to gain access to our protected databases, e-books and e-journals.
Your login details
You login in the same way as for Blackboard - via Microsoft. Just enter your University username followed by @student.reading.ac.uk (e.g. email@example.com) and your password. If this is the first time you have logged in via this method when off-campus you will be asked to complete a Multi-Factor Authentication. For more information see:

Watch this short video on how you login to use Library resources.
If you are unable to view this video on YouTube it is also available on Stream - view the Logging in to the Library video on Stream (University username and password required)
This series of three videos covers accessing books, journal articles and primary sources when working away from campus. They include finding online Library resources and freely available material too.
You should be able to access our online resources from your workplace. However, problems are sometimes caused by firewalls and other restrictive settings on company machines. If you experience problems please email the CIPPET Librarian, Jackie Skinner - firstname.lastname@example.org including any error messages you have seen and details of where you are working.
Please note: our online resources should be used only for research related to your CIPPET assignments.
