A guide to finding and using e-books

Many of our e-books are available to download.

Where an e-book is available for download you will usually be able to download individual chapters as PDF files, and in some case, the full e-book.

To download Ebook Central e-books you will need to install Adobe Digital Editions. This software enforces Digital Rights Management. It allows you to download the e-book for a set period of time, but with limited functionality - you will typically not be able to print or copy from the downloaded e-book. Available periods for download range from 1 day to 21 days, depending on the e-book. 

To download an Ebook Central e-book, click on the Full Download icon from the e-book's Book Details pageEbook Central full download icon or click on the Download icon at the top of the online viewer. Ebook Central full download icon in viewer

You may be prompted to open the e-book in the online viewer before you can download it..

Three easy steps will guide you through the download process. You will be asked to select the device you are using, then you will be reminded to install Adobe Digital Editions software, and lastly you will be asked to chose a download period (if more than one option is available for that e-book).

 

Click on Download Your Book. A file should now have been downloaded to your device. Please ensure you have installed Adobe Digital Editions or the Bluefire Reader app in order to open and read the e-book. 

The e-book has been downloaded to your device for the selected period. If you wish to continue reading the e-book after this time, you will need to download it again.

While it isn't possible to download entire EBSCOhost e-books, you are able to download a limited number of pages. Typically, you will be able to download up to 5% of the e-book's total number of pages.

To download a liimited number of pages, open the full-text PDF of the e-book and click on the Save Pages icon at the top of the online viewer. EBSCOhost save pages icon

A box will open, detailing how many pages you will be able to save or download. Enter the page number(s) you would like to save or download and press Save PDF

A PDF copy of the selected pages should now have been downloaded to your computer.
