This guide will help University of Reading staff and students find out if they can publish their journal articles Open Access.

For authors with funding from UK Research Councils and other charities use this guide to make sure your chosen journal will comply with your funder's Open Access mandate.

My article has been accepted in a journal in a publisher deal and I need to know what licence to choose 
The creative commons CC BY licence Go to the Copyright and Licensing page for detailed advice. In most cases you should choose CC BY as this will conform with funders' policies and is the University's preferred option. 

I need to pay an invoice from a publisher for Open Access 
Contact the Open Access requests team at oarequests@reading.ac.uk to find out if the Library has funds to pay the invoice as soon as possible.
If you have already been given a purchase order number from the OA requests team, make sure this appears on the invoice and then send the invoice to oarequests@reading.ac.uk and the team will handle payment. 

My publisher says I qualify for Open Access funding but I need to check that I won't be charged a fee
Check the Publisher Deals section to find out how the publisher deals with papers that qualify for funding. If you still have queries, contact the Open Access requests team at oarequests@reading.ac.uk.

I have a UK Research Council grant and I need to apply for funding for Open Access
First check that the journal complies with your funder's Open Access policy and then see if the journal is part of our Open Access deals. If you will need to pay an APC, apply for funding before submission using the Open Access Request form. 

I want to find out if a journal complies with my funder's Open Access policy
There are websites such as Sherpa and the Journal Checker Tool that can help you work out if the journal you have chosen will be compliant with your funder's policy. If you are still not sure, contact the Open Access requests team at oarequests@reading.ac.uk.

I want to publish a book or book chapter Open Access
