Postgraduate Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) study support guide: 2. Library resources

Guidance and support for students following courses run by PACE.

The Library offers a wealth of online and printed resources to support your studies. Visit our website for details of opening hours and guidance on using the Library:

If you have any questions about the information presented here, please contact Jackie Skinner, Academic Liaison Librarian for Postgraduate Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) at the University of Reading.

Welcome!

Watch this short video for an introduction to the Library and our services and support for students on Postgraduate Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) programmes. You will need to login with your University username and password to view this video.

Finding and borrowing books

Use the Library catalogue Enterprise to search for specific books or books on a topic. It will display both print and online books. Use the limits on the left of your search results to restrict to online materials you can access at home or in your workplace.

When you start your studies at the University you will be given a Campus Card. This is also your Library card. You can use it to borrow books from the Library. You can borrow up to 25 books for 6 weeks (unless recalled by another user).

We do not offer a postal loans service, so you will have to visit the Library in person to borrow items. However, you can return them by post. Please check your University email account regularly as we will send notices about recalled items and overdue loans to this address.

To return books put them through the returns machine on the Ground Floor or post them into the Book drop beside the entrance.

Watch this series of short videos for guidance on finding, borrowing and returning books:

If you are unable to view these videos on YouTube they are also available on YuJa via the links below (University login required):

Checking your account or renewing loans

Log in to your account using your University username and password to check your loans, renew them and pay any fines. For more information see "Self-service features" on the Enterprise help pages.

Photocopying

You have a photocopying and printing account associated with your Campus Card. To photocopy you use your Campus Card. Login to the Campus Card Portal with your University username and password to add credit to your account.

For more information on the location of the copiers, copying costs and adding credit to your account see our Photocopying page.

Accessing online resources

You will need your University username and password to access our online resources. This is the same one you use to access the Blackboard site.

Just follow the links from our website or catalogue for the easiest access. If you try to access a resource via another route, e.g. using a search engine, you will need to look for an institutional or shibboleth login option.

Watch this short video on logging in to Library resources:

If you are unable to view this video on YouTube it is also available on YuJa - view the Logging in to the Library video on YuJa (University username and password required)

Note that if you have an NHS Athens login you may have access to a wider range of online resources than you can access via your University login.

Using Library resources from your workplace

You should be able to access online Library resources from your workplace. However, problems are sometimes caused by firewalls and other restrictive settings on company machines. If you experience problems please email the Postgraduate Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) Librarian, Jackie Skinner - jackie.skinner@reading.ac.uk including any error messages you have seen and details of where you are working.

Please note: our online resources should be used only for research related to your Postgraduate Advanced Clinical Education (PACE) assignments. See our terms of use:
